You Are A Guru

THE CRAZE
Well, the official crazy word in Nashville is Cicadas, These creepy critters emerge every 7 or 13 years from underground! And they take over like a sci-fi flick, covering surfaces and shedding their scary shells -it's nuts.  AND they make noises, like a hum that is similar to but way louder than crickets and it's 24/7. Kind of good timing that I am hitting the road to NM this week!
Anyway, in response or protest to their constant banter I have begun Tweeting. The problem is that Tweeting on twitter doesn't actually make a noise. But .... it's FUN and unfortunately, sort of addictive. Help! So, Drop a line back and let me know your handle!! The more the meredith-ier (ha! I made up a new word again) Find me Find Me Here or my handle is @MeredithBlis I usually post daily inspiring or sassy quotes as well as interesting music business articles. So hash me, @ me, and let me know what YOU are up to!
And if you are a little overwhelmed by all of this Social Media nonsense? Here are 2 great resources and Guru's to check out! In Nashville, Charles Alexander hosts amazing seminars and he also does private consulting. All over the Globe, Ariel Hyatt of Cyber PR.  She has a great newsletter with tips and 2 fabulous books So, Tweet On with your bad self! and Join Me in this craze

YOU ARE A GURU
Well, since I'm so crazy today tweeting and prepping for upcoming NM adventure. Todays article will be short and hopefully, Super-Sweet!
In talking about Ariel and Charles, I would refer to them as Guru's of Social Media. They have the gift of helping others understand how to navigate cyberspace.
So, we hear the word Guru and often the image is of a guy in monk-like robes will appear and he is the ONE who has the unseen answers to life's complicated questions, like, "What is the Meaning of Life?" or "What should I order for dinner?" So here comes my Yogi In the Real World Self to actually explain What That Word Means and Why you don't need that Monk to lead you to salvation...... The Origin of the word GuRu is actually a derivative of 2 words GU- Darkness and RU-Light.

So the literal translation is "One who transforms Darkness to Light." We can understand the concept of "Guru" as a teacher who shares their knowledge - they enable you to learn by transforming the unseen to the obvious. Kinda nifty, huh? What's also neat is that you don't need to journey to a mountaintop to attain supreme knowledge. Who has the time to journey to KatMandu? Much easier to look at what is going in this moment, on this plane of life!  So, let's take a look.....

Many sages say that every someone we meet has something to teach us. The key is taking a moment to listen. So, shhhh.... reflect on situations and people: Your Best Friend, The nice woman who checks you out at the Grocery Store, and even, (most especially) a person whom you might be in conflict with. Next, where does Your Guru Magic come in? We all have our special gifts, where do you shine? What do you have to share with people?

Embrace that thought because YOU TOO have the ability of a "gu-ru" the ability to bring light to others! We can do this with our music, art, creativity, and even with a simple smile, a listening ear, a good deed, or simply by our presence. Who knew? You are a Guru Too!
Ok, now back to tweeting
Love and Light to you all,
Meredith
