How to Celebrate Thanks Giving
As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, I started thinking beyond the Turkey/Tofurkey, the pumpkin pie, the Macy ' s parade and more about the about the word, Thanksgiving
Thanks
- Kindly or grateful thoughts
Giving
- The transfer of something without the expectation of receiving something in return
Hmmmm .... A lot of potential magic there .....
Yes, I realize that the tradition stems from historical events and for some it is also the subject of controversy ... But what if we look simply at the idea?
Perhaps Thanksgiving can simply be a wonderful excuse to take a moment, step back Give Thanks & Express Gratitude.
For each new morning with its light,
For rest and shelter of the night, For health and food, for love and friends, For everything Thy goodness sends.
~Ralph Waldo Emerson
In yoga, we have a saying, "have an attitude of gratitude"
Try to live each moment in a grateful state of mind for all that you experience and possess. This helps bring awareness to the things we take for granted and brings acknowledgement to the blessings in our lives.
The Magic of Giving Thanks works on so many levels that can create joy, enrich our lives and bring light to others ... ..
An important 'Thanks Giving' for me is remembering to 'give thanks' for the special people in my life.
Don ' t forget to tell your friends, family & partners how amazing they are and that you appreciate them! Sometimes we take for granted that they already know - it never hurts to remind people how wonderful they are and how much they mean to you.
"Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings us peace for today & creates a vision for tomorrow." ~Melody Beattie
I truly believe that when we give thanks we multiply our blessings.
Also, there is a school of thought that believes in Giving Thanks for the blessings we have not yet received.
For example, if there is something that you desire? Take a moment to hold the thought in your mind. Use your 5 senses to feel it, taste it, smell it, see it, hear it, connect with the emotions of this wish as though it was already a reality. And give thanks. Many great thinkers believe in this powerful formula for making dreams come true ... ..
"Gratitude is an art of painting an adversity into a lovely picture." ~Kak Sri
Remember a so called 'problem,' 'trauma,' or 'drama' that has occurred in your past and in that moment it was the worst thing ever. And now you look back and laugh or maybe you ' re even grateful that it happened. Because? Perhaps it led you to a new positive situation or place ... .
Sometimes the most powerful blessings come wrapped in the package of despair, this is kind of sneaky when good things misrepresent them selves as problems ... Don ' t be afraid to examine situations more deeply - often there is a gift inside. When you realize that - Take a moment! Give THX!
As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them. ~John Fitzgerald Kennedy
How can you celebrate Gratitude?
Saying grace before each meal or event.
Donating your time, belongings to someone/someplace that needs them
I have one friend who keeps a gratitude journal. Each day he writes at least one thing he is grateful for.
I have a few friends on Facebook who have declared November, ' a month of gratitude ' and each day they post something for which they are grateful
I often like to fall asleep at night and think about the things for which I am grateful
Take a moment, Think about it .... What are you grateful for?
Don ' t forget to Give Thanks and may you have a Beautiful, Blessed & Blissful Thanksgiving
Love, Light and Many Thanks to YOU
