Rock Star Tip of the Week: RELAXING AND RELEASING THE TONGUE

In case you didn't know, the tongue is the second strongest muscle in the body! (the heart is the first) What we see in our mouth is actually on 1/3 of it's actual size. Releasing tension in the tongue is a very powerful tool for opening our singing voice and helping our tone & resonance. Any vocal practice should include vocal exercises to release the tongue. So here's a little stretch to get you started!

Tongue Stretch

    1.    Begin by relaxing the jaw. Allow it to release and drop open
    2.    Consciously relax the tongue - feel it lie flat in your mouth with the tip over your front bottom teeth
    3.    Literally stick the tongue out as far as you can, pointing the tip towards the ground. Make sure it its flat and that the jaw is remaining open & relaxed
    4.    Eyes open, look up towards the ceiling this creates an opposing movement to help you stretch a little bit further
    5.    Keep reaching with the tongue down and eyes looking up for about 10 seconds
    6.    Release! And Rock On with your vocal exercises

Let me know how it goes!
