3 Tricks for Time Management!! Part 2

Last week we covered…
The Brain Drain, and the 3 C’s….  Catch! Capture!  And Calendarize!
If you missed it? Check out the Blog Post Here….

This week is little less about structure and more about how to stay on point and get that To-Do List, TO DONE!

1.  Step By Step Prioritize
Ask yourself what are the most important thing/things for today? What needs to be done NOW? Look at each day and plan 3 priorities.  Also, when working on a particular task try to stay focused on that ONE thing till it’s complete. (This one is huge for ADD people like me :)  yup... right now,  my FB just bleeped -  time to close my browser!!
A lot of coaches recommend using a timer for the blocks of work time.  Set it for 30 or 60 min, stay on point till it rings and then take a break for a few minutes.  I also like using this tactic for writing and rehearsing.

Also, if you do have things that don't get done on that day, that’s alright!!  Reschedule ‘em for tomorrow or later in the week.  It’s all good; we often have more to-dos than time to do them.  Exhale!

Hint:  if you are working on a Project - take a moment to Plan! Break it down into steps and List the separate tasks that need to happen.

2.      LOOK AT THE LEAKS
IF you are seriously struggling with not enough hours in the day,  I get it!!   We all have the same 24 hours, how do some people get SO much more done? Take a hard look at where your time is going….    Be honest and look at the things you are doing that are not in line with, or leading you towards your bigger goals.  Letting go of them will open up the time to spend where you really want it to go!   Ask yourself what do I really want to be doing??  And do THAT.
Some common leaks….
TV, social media, YouTube, phone and text (I turn mine OFF while working) and I hate to say this….  Occasionally it’s particular friends - sometimes it’s certain people who are draining our energy and time.

3.      Learn to say the Word NO
For some people this is a hard one.  If you read last week,
And you've scheduled your activities into your calendar, keep that time sacred.
This one is big for artists who schedule creative time, allow yourself to take that as seriously as showing up for a meeting.  It’s just as important to keep your dates with your muse!!
I give you permission to say NO when your friend calls for lunch, drinks, to gossip (leak!!) or complain (leak!!).  If you're an entrepreneur or you work at home sometimes friends/family don't get it – so it’s up to you; respect your office hours.

If you need a break, sure, it’s OK to occasionally fluff off an hour :)  Sometimes you can allow yourself that perk of being an entrepreneur!
But if you have to, (insert To-Do) can you schedule that To-Do for later?  If not, then practice saying NO. Sometimes it’s not fun but sometimes it also makes me happy to know that I'm staying on point!!  It helps to think of the long term benefits of staying focused now.

And one last thing…
Don't forget to schedule time to relax and rejuvenate; Allowing our brains and spirits to rest is a KEY to working more efficiently. :)

Oftentimes people say…. “You can't manage time....”
But?  You CAN use it to your advantage so that you can keep moving towards your goals and dreams!

May all of your to-do’s get to done with joy and ease!
