Rock Star Tip of the Week: HYDRATION!

I'm gonna make this one summery, simple and sweet
HYDRATION!!
I mean Water, Water, Water
(not soda, sugary juices, processed teas, power drinks, red bull, sugar substituted drinks, coffee, vodka or beer....)
8-10 - 8 oz glasses a day will keep the doctor away and
For you Rock Stars out there, it is a key to keeping your voice in top shape.

WHY?
Hydration keeps the vocal folds lubricated, limber & balances the layer of mucous that naturally coats them. Our cords need this moist environment to move easily & vibrate freely.
Dehydration creates friction between the cords (imagine 2 dry sticks rubbing together versus 2 pieces of seaweed...) & reduces the flexibility of the larynx.
Water also helps to flush toxins out of our system.

Some Other tips...
+ It takes approx 20 minutes for the water to absorb through our bodies. The water must go through your entire system in order to hydrate the larynx and the vocal cords. So best bet is drink continuously throughout the day.
+ If you are thirsty, that is a sign that your body is already dehydrated.
+ Remember Caffeine and Alcohol are dehydrating to the voice.
+ Best at room temperature - too cold is a shock to the body
+ Purified or Spring Water recommended.
+ Summertime heat is quickly dehydrating, so often we need to be super aware this time of year.
